Every day my colleague asks
"Have you seen the news"
And I sign as he should know I can't trust
Sources quantifying success through views
Instead I must rely on merely
A chain of word of mouth
From non-algorithmic social sites
Relaying truths of what goes down south
Degrees rescinded, black folks killed
Masses of immigrants deported
And crowds of tens of thousands strong
All remain vastly underreported
More sciences and services
Being raided by the Boer
And nonsense angry tariff rates
To wage a world trade war
What will happen to us up here?
Will our country be invaded?
Or is the might and resolve of fascism
Being greatly overstated?
I can't do much but give a buck
To keep me and chosen kin alive
And wait for time to take its course
Through Twenty Twenty-Five
